GO climbing by yourself, on your own time.

Ever wonder how world-class climbers stay strong and send their projects even with busy schedules? Ever dream of going climbing on your own time without the hassle of coordinating with a partner? Would you like to be able to get outdoor pitches in before or after work at your local cliff?

Top Rope Soloing is an amazing way to get out and go climbing without the hassle and coordination of going climbing with another human. It’s also a wonderful way to work on your projects, climb in a party of 3 in a single pitch setting without any sitting around, and it’s arguably less dangerous than leading a sport pitch with the right tools and training.

Top Rope Soloing is the next hot thing, and we’re experts at it.

This course is designed to help climbers understand the nuances of self belaying or Top Rope Soloing in a single pitch setting. We’ll go over set ups, devices, anchors and rigging, and transitions from ascent to descent.

This is a great course for anyone looking to get more mileage and more out of their outdoor days of climbing.

Itinerary

We’ll first start off the day by going through the basic setup and theory of a Top Rope Solo system. We’ll talk about common devices, how we set them up and common mistakes and pitfalls people make when starting out TR soloing.

From there, we will work our way into understanding anchoring and rigging options for our ropes, talk about assisting our devices to feed smoothly, and understand how to mitigate edges for our ropes and re-anchoring to isolate sections of our rope.

We will finish the day with a thorough discussion transitioning from ascent to descent mode and make sure everyone is dialed with how to escape weighted systems.

These are the main meat and potatoes of Top Rope Solo climbing. TR Soloing is overall a very safe way to go climbing, BUT you are responsible for all of your backups, checks and rigging.

Kevin Heinrich

I grew up mostly in the North Eastern US but began traveling and climbing after high school and never looked back. I’ve been lucky to climb in over 10 countries and have done many first ascents on 3 continents. Now I mostly travel in my janky van in the Great American West with occasional trips abroad. I’m surprised to say I’ve been guiding for nearly a decade on rock, ice, mountains, and skis but now mostly focus on delivering highly personalized and precise rock climbing instruction.

It would be fun to list more accomplishments but I truly don’t think that’s what climbing is about. My goal is to be a damn good teacher of the skills people need to prepare for and take on some of the biggest challenges of their lives; not so they can brag about it on Instagram or in a website About page :), but so they learn about themselves, the people around them, and the world we live in.

I’m an AMGA Certified Rock Guide and have some expensive other bits of paper too. I pride myself in thinking hard about the skills I teach and how best to present them to you in a way that’s clear, concise, actionable, and appropriate for your skill level. Above all else I care. I care about you as a human being and hope we can get outside and learn from each other soon!
